A recent panel of pharmaceutical and logistics experts have called for fresh thinking in the wake of increased challenges around sea freight.

The panel which included Cargo Insurance Manager Treasury-Global Finance for Sanofi, Catherine Lopez, met to discuss in detail the current state of the marine logistics ecosystem when it came to shipping COVID-19 vaccines and what some of the future opportunities for underwriters might be.

The seminar, which was named COVID-19 Vaccines as Precious Cargo identified a particular need to address the opaque and nebulous nature of the industry and establish new levels of transparency and traceability as well as solutions for optimizing end-to-end coordination between stakeholders.

“The biggest takeaway from the event was the call for building a better united logistics ecosystem for underwriters that takes advantage of new digitized products and services that bring much needed technological solutions to marine insurers – solutions that ultimately reduce risks and make them competitive for the future,” said Munich Re, who hosted the seminar. “We are pleased to be able to host an event like this and are dedicated to playing an active role in developing digital marine insurance solutions.”
