GSK Sets Up a Regional Distribution Centre in Uruguay
When pharma heavyweight, GlaxoSmithKline [GSK] was searching for a new distribution centre from which it could serve the pharmaceutical needs of the Southern Cone, it decided to turn to a country it knew could deliver on the high standards it expects.
Located in the modern facilities at the MVD Free Airport at Carrasco Airport in Uruguay, the new distribution centre will allow GSK to supply regional markets with pharmaceutical products such as medicines for the treatment of asthma, COPD, allergic rhinitis, epilepsy, HIV, among others.
The distribution centre will simultaneously allow GSK optimize transportation costs and reduce delivery times through the consolidation of cargo from Europe to countries in the Southern Cone, starting with Uruguay and Argentina.
“The choice of Uruguay as the scenario to carry out the distribution of its products is another example of the commitment that the company has had with the country for more than 80 uninterrupted years,” said GSK in a press statement. “The strategic reasons that led the laboratory to choose Uruguay include, according to Vincent, its geographical location, macroeconomic stability, high levels of transparency, advances in connectivity and the existence of a regulatory framework that allows business development, among others.”
The airport will receive products from plants in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Poland, and Brazil.
