How Digital Resilience Has Helped Johnson & Johnson’s Supply Chain

As one of the companies producing vaccines for the COVID-19 crisis, J&J has a special responsibility when it comes to making sure its supply chains continue to operate as smoothly as possible.

Not only is the pharmaceutical giant producing its own vaccine but has also been stepping up production to meet demand for its other, symptom treating, products. Medicines such as cough syrup and fever reducers have all seen an increased demand during the pandemic and J&J has been right there in the vanguard, keeping things moving.

One of the ways it has been achieving this is with next-generation AI technology which can monitor and identify unusual ordering patterns and respond accordingly. Digital tech has also been deployed to make sure J&J can keep its factories running with reduced staff and make sure its life-saving products can still get where they’re needed.

“I think we’re in a good place and marching forward in the right direction in terms of being able to tap into technologies around machine learning or analytics or intelligent automation,” said Johnson & Johnson’s digital transformation expert Sarfraz Nawaz “But there’s also the institutional environment that we work with, the various geographical conditions where you have to operate, and the availability of technology capabilities in these regions and how we enable it.”
